Notocactus uebelmannianus (10 seeds)
Notocactus uebelmannianus, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil.
The photos hardly do the flowers justice, with their brilliance and vivid purple color. The flowers shimmer in the sun and are a sight to behold. The body of the plant is green to dark green, but can take on a reddish tint in strong sunlight. The spines are short and grow close to the body.
It is not a difficult species and grows fairly fast. A mineral soil works fine, but like many South American species they can do just as well with a decent amount of organic matter in the soil.
N. uebelmannianus is threatened in habitat, particularly from land development since it often grows on land suitable for farming or human occupation.
10 seeds per packet. The seeds germinate well under normal conditions.
