Echinopsis sp. L 400 (20 seeds)
Echinopsis sp. L 400 (20 seeds)
Echinopsis sp. L 400, Tarija, Bolivia.
This is a species that has never been formally described with a species name. It is only known under the collection number it was given in 1970 by Alfred Lau, its collector.
It is sometimes seen under the names Echinopsis tapecuana or E. tortispina but these names are not correct.
The plants under this collection number produce stunning large white flowers with a long flower tube, which open in the evening and last until late morning (sometimes into the day). The flowers are similar to many other Echinopsis species. The L 400 plants are perhaps best defined by having hooked central spines, uncommon in the genus.
They grow a bit slower than many other species in the genus and don't become particularly big. But they are not difficult and grow well. They are dark green, but can take on a reddish tint in strong sunlight.
20 seeds per packet. The seeds germinate well under normal conditions.
